02 · About the exhibition

The exhibition “Lords of the Depths — Sharks and Rays of the Adriatic” has opened at the Gallery of the Natural History Museum on Mali Kalemegdan, taking the public into the fascinating world of some of the planet's oldest predators and their key role in keeping marine ecosystems in balance.

The exhibition is co-produced with the Natural History Museum of Montenegro and continues a long-running regional collaboration between the two institutions.

At the opening, the audience was addressed by Slavko Spasić, Director of the Natural History Museum in Belgrade; Stefan Ralević, the author; and Dr Natalija Čađenović, Director of the Natural History Museum of Montenegro, who officially opened the show.

What you'll see

The display features dermoplastic specimens of Adriatic sharks and rays, models of selected species, and educational materials that explain the biology, diversity, and importance of these often-misunderstood animals.

Visitors can encounter the most familiar species of the Adriatic, understand their role as apex predators, and learn why many of them are endangered today.

Regional collaboration

The exhibition is the result of years of cooperation between the Natural History Museum in Belgrade and the Natural History Museum of Montenegro — proof that joint projects deliver a richer, more accessible display.

On view through June 2026.
